Funeral services for Margaret Louise Borgeson, age 86, a resident of Herman, will be held Saturday, June 19 at 11:30 am at the United Methodist Church of Herman. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to services. Margaret died at the Wheaton Hospital on Wednesday, June 16. Pastor Mickey Olson will officiate. Pall Bearers will be Margarets grandsons and grandsons-in-law. Interment is at Lakeside Cemetery, Herman. Margaret Johnson was born September 28, 1923 on the family farm in Macsville Township, Grant County, Minnesota. Her parents were Herbert and Marilla Kriedler Johnson. Margaret was the older of two children, her younger brother being Donald. Margaret and Donald attended Macsville Township elementary school and Herman High School. Margaret graduated from Herman High School in 1941 and attended business school in Minneapolis for a year. With the outbreak of World War II, Margaret and two classmates and friends, Dorothy Ferris and Joan Niemackl, passed civil service exams and accepted administrative positions at the Pentagon in Washington DC working in military intelligence for two years. Margaret married Reuben Borgeson of Norcross on March 3, 1945 in Chicago. The couple moved to Whidbey Island, WA where Reuben was assigned to Oak Harbor Naval Air Station. When the war ended, they returned to Minnesota to farm in the Herman area. Margaret and Reuben raised 3 children while farming in Macsville Township for over 30 years. Their children are Dale of Oakland CA, and Carol Danzeisen and Faye Vipond of Herman. Margaret worked as a bookkeeper for Berger Chevrolet for 13 years. She was a member of the Grant County Welfare Board for a decade, following in the footsteps of her father who was a Grant County Commissioner. Margaret and Reuben spent 15 winters in Casa Grande Arizona where Reuben was the accordionist for the Arizona Old Time Fiddlers Association and Margaret played the gut bucket. Margaret and Reuben celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary at their daughter Fayes residence in Herman in 1995 with family, friends, and members of the Fiddlers group. Margaret served as hostess and pie lady at Dennys Caf in Herman for many years. Margaret loved to read mystery novels and regularly went through 15-20 books per month from the Morris Library. She was an avid Minnesota Twins fan and never missed a telecast. She loved playing cards with friends and enjoyed monthly trips to the casino penny slots. She loved to play Scrabble with her granddaughters, and was noted for inventing her own dictionary. Survivors include son Dale (and Geline) Borgeson of Oakland CA, daughter Carol (and Bob) Danzeisen) of Herman, daughter Faye (and Denny) Vipond of Herman, brother Donald (and Mary Ann), sister-in-law Amy Reckner of Herman. Margaret leaves 9 grandchildren: Eugene and Isabella Borgeson of Oakland CA; Scot (and Nikki) Danzeisen of Herman, Lane (and Nicole) Danzeisen of Nassau, Quinn (and Chuck) Olson of Evansville, Lisa Vipond of Plymouth, Jill (and Jon) Veldhouse of Eden Prairie, Hayley (and Bryan) Munsell of Minneapolis, and Tony Vipond of Herman. Great grand children are Baily and Brody Danzeisen, and Bradyn and Brycen Danzeisen, Tiffany Olson, Kennedy and Madeline Veldhouse, and Maxwell Munsell. Margaret is preceded in death by her husband Reuben, her parents Herbert and Marilla, a baby sister, and her granddaughter Linsey Faye Danzeisen.
