Funeral Services for Margaret Grohn, age 96 of Wheaton, were held on Saturday, April 1st, 2006 at 11:00 at the St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton with Rev. Howard Jording officiating. Visitation was Friday from 5:00 PM until 8:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM, all at St. John Lutheran Church. Burial will be at St. John Cemetery in Wheaton. Pallbearers were: Robert Niss, John Bornhoft, Wayne Stoneberg, Marvin Stoneberg, Gary Timm, and Jim Kleespies. The Ranney Funeral Home (www.ranneyfuneralhome.com) was in charge of arrangements. Margaret Grohn was born at Wheaton, MN, the daughter of Louis and Emma (Hinsch) Niss, on October 25, 1909. She was baptized on November 28, 1909 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Dumont, MN and also confirmed there on March 23, 1923. She attended rural school south of Wheaton and after High School in Wheaton , she attended Business College in Fargo, N.D.. She was then employed in the Grant County Court House in Carson, ND, doing secretarial work. In 1933, she went to Bismarck, ND where she was employed in the Board of Administration in the State Capital, until 1944, as a secretary and later, as auditor. She was married to Arthur Meidinger on February 25, 1942. In 1948, they returned to Wheaton. where her husband worked as a meat cutter in the Wheaton Creamery Locker Plant. They later operated the Locker Plant together until the end of 1966 when her husband's health would not permit his working any longer. In 1967 she went to work in the State Bank of Wheaton as secretary and teller. Many of you may remember her as doing the Wheaton Radio Show for a number of years. Her husband died on January 31st, 1971. She retired from the bank in 1973. On April 17, 1974, she married Donald Grohn. They spent their summers in Wheaton and their winter months in south Texas from 1981 until 2001. In her later life she was afflicted with a breathing problem; she spent much of her time doing handwork with plastic canvas, which she enjoyed giving away. She made afghans for all of the eleven grandchildren as well as for other members of her family and friends. Margaret entered the Traverse Care Center in Wheaton on November 22, 2002. She was a life-long member of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod. She was very active in the Walther League and the Woman's Missionary League of her church, serving in various capacities on the local and state level, both in North Dakota and Minnesota. Margaret is survived by her husband Donald, 17 nieces and nephews, three sons; Allen (Gloria) Grohn of Fergus Falls, MN, Dennis (Jeanne) Grohn of Sioux City, IA and Bruce (Gwen) Grohn of Lebanon, Or., a sister-in-law, Edna Mae Niss of Wheaton and a brother-in-law Merle Stoneberg of Mountain Lake , MN., eleven grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Lawrence , sisters Leora and Belva and her first husband, Arthur.
