Marieta Maudal, age 98, of Wheaton, Minnesota passed away on Wednesday, May 19, 2021 at Countryside Inn Assisted Living Center in Rosholt, South Dakota.
Funeral Services will be Saturday, May 22, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton with Rev. George Sagissor III officiating. Organist will be Sara Lee Rinke with special music by Gloria Stargel and Shelly Eichhorn.
Visitation will be one hour prior to service time at the church.
Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Wheaton. Pallbearers will be Cameron Maudal, Carson Maudal, Jim Dalziel, John Dalziel, Roger Dalziel and Chuck Fell. Honorary Pallbearers will be Harriet Schmitz, Retired Teachers Group and friends at the Senior Center.
Marieta Adele Dalziel was born January 23, 1923 in Taylor Township, rural Wheaton, Minnesota to John Allan and Anna Marie Pauline (Hartwig) Dalziel. She attended country school district 28 through eighth grade and graduated from Wheaton High School in 1941. Between the ages of ten and twenty-one, 4-H and later Rural Youth occupied much of her time. She was active at local meetings and exhibited at both Traverse County and the Minnesota State Fair. She attended Minnesota State Teachers College graduating on June 4, 1943. Marieta taught rural country school in the Wheaton area, and also first grade at Pearson Elementary. Her students were all special to her; she had a picture in her scrapbooks of almost every student she taught.
Marieta was united in marriage to Alton Maudal June 30, 1948 at St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton by Rev. E.C. Hallstein. The couple farmed north of town and Marieta continued teaching until 1973. Alton and Marieta started selling Shaklee Products that lasted from 1969 until 1988. The couple sold enough Shaklee products they received seven free cars through the years. The couple also raised chickens on the farm having over 10,000 chickens at once, several times a year.
She enjoyed coffee, scrapbooking, coffee, flowers, coffee, gardening and visiting with family and friends. Noon meal at the Wheaton Senior Center was the favorite part of her day. Marieta had many sayings: “Light is a task when many share the toil”, “Too soon old, too late smart”, “Where there is a will, there is a way” and “We don’t really get old, we just get more like who we really are”.
Marieta lived alone in her own home in Wheaton until September of 2020 when she moved to Countryside Inn Assisted Living Center in Rosholt, South Dakota where she resided until her passing.
Marieta is survived by her son Vaughn and his wife Julie Maudal of Wheaton; two grandchildren: Cameron and his wife Theresia Maudal of Elbow Lake, MN; and Carson Maudal of Wheaton; and sister-in-law Rosie Dalziel of Zimmerman, MN.
Marieta was preceded in death by her husband; sister Lois Young; and brother Rod Dalziel.
