Funeral Service for Marlon LeRoy Olson, 68, of Browns Valley, Minnesota will be held Tuesday, July 10, 2007 at 11:00 A.M. at the Bethlehem Covenant Church in Wheaton, Minnesota with Rev. Tim Shekleton officiating. Pallbearers will be Gordon Dobbs, Mark Koch, Dale Jacobs, Marlo Warholm, Gene Sager and Dale Schmidt. Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Wheaton. Visitation will be held Monday, July 9, 2007 from 5:00 P.M. until 7:00 P.M. at the Ranney Funeral Home in Wheaton. Marlon was born on September 2, 1938 to Elvin L. and Hazel C. (Johnson) Olson in Traverse County. He was baptized in the Mission Church. Marlon graduated from Wheaton High School in 1956. He joined the National Guard right out of High School where he remained active for 10 years, and won awards for sharp-shooting. After graduation he moved to Fergus Falls where he worked as a welder for two years, returning to Wheaton to farm for two years. Marlon worked as a carpenter for Fridgen Construction and Janke & Laddusaw Construction before going out on his own. If you had a chimney that needed to be repaired or a leaky roof, he was the man to call. In 1965, he married Myrna Niesche. To this union one son Kevin was born. In 1971, He purchased the apartment, business rental building on main street of Wheaton, and in 1994 purchased the Liquor Store from the City of Wheaton. Marlon semi retired in 1991 due to health problems. In 1994, Marlon and Myrna bought a lake home on Lake Traverse, near Browns Valley, where he lived until entering the Browns Valley Care Center in May 2007, after breaking both ankles and other complications. Marlon enjoyed hunting, in Little Fork, Minnesota with his dad, son, friend Marlo, and cousins. He liked to fish, bird-watch, and garden, watching things grow in nature. Being a carpenter he also enjoyed finishing wood to preserve its quality. Marlon passed away on July 6, 2007 at the Holy Trinity Hospital in Graceville, Minnesota. Marlon is survived by his wife: Myrna of Browns Valley, Minnesota, Son: Kevin of Wheaton, Sister: Sharyn (Douglas) Hartwig of Wheaton, Three nieces: Wendy, Kristie, and Sandra, and Aunt: Lois Braaten of Little Fork, Minnesota. Marlon was preceded in death by his parents, 16 month old brother: Maylon and one nephew.
