Marvin Walter Raguse was born on March 6, 1925, the youngest son of Herman & Anna Raguse on the family farm in Taylor township. He was baptized and confirmed in his faith at Immanuel Lutheran Church rural Wheaton. Marvin attended Country School #27 through the eighth grade.
At age nineteen , Marvin was drafted into the US Navy and discharged in 1946, after brother Robert's farm accident, to come home to help on the family farm.
On September 25, 1949 Marvin was united in marriage to Vyone Boom and they made their home on the farm 2 miles south of the Raguse home place where they raised their children Larry and Brenda. In 1971 , they took in their niece and nephew Brian and Janel Donley also bringing them up on the family farm.
Marvin was dedicated to farming his entire life. He loved watching the fields grow and especially enjoyed the harvesting of their corn, beans and sugarbeets. He was so proud that his son, Larry and grandsons Kelly and Kyle took over his farm when he retired and moved into Wheaton in 1991. Even then he continued to drive out to help in the fields and later would just drive out to tour weekly. Kelly gave him the last farm tour just a week before his passing.
Marvin loved playing cards with friends and family, cribbage with the grandkids, pinochle and smear with men at the Legion & Golf Course, at bridge clubs and card clubs with friends when they traveled south for the winters. Marvin and Vyone enjoyed traveling in their motorhome and covered 47 states. In 1992 they purchased a home in Mesa, AZ spending winters with many good friends.
Marvin served on the Traverse County Fair Board for 25 years and so enjoyed the fair each year even attending everyday this past week with family on his electric scooter saying hi to so many friends. He also served on the Monson Church Council and White Rock Oil Board. He loved being out with people and enjoyed all family times.
Marvin is survived by his children, Larry (Barb) Raguse and Brenda (Alan) Petersen all of Wheaton.
