Mary Block age 94 of Wheaton, Minnesota passed away on Wednesday, March 1, 2006 at the Grace Home in Graceville, Minnesota. Mary was born on May 28, 1911 in LeSueur, Minnesota to John and Josephine Veigel. Mary graduated from Long Prairie High School in 1930. The family moved to Wheaton and she met and married Augie Block Jr. on August 4, 1931, and to this union two daughters were born, Mary Lou Block and Jean Ann Hamernick. Mary was employed as Assistant Clerk of Court, J.E. Pearson Elementary School, the office at the Wheaton Community Hospital and news correspondent for the Wheaton Gazette. Mary enjoyed life and her and Augie enjoyed fishing together. Mary was an active member of Ave Maria Catholic Church and enjoyed gardening, crocheting, hardanger, sewing, quilting, cooking, baking, and playing cards with special friend Don Whaley, and an avid dog lover. Mary also enjoyed spending quality time with two of her very special young friends Megan Peters and Patrick Conroy, they brought a great deal of joy into her life. Mary is survived by her two daughters: Mary Lou Block of Wheaton, Minnesota and Jean Ann Hamernick of Napa, California, Grandchildren: Jim Hamernick, Jean Sawyer, Jeff Hamernick, DeAnn Hamernick and Mike Hamernick, and seven great-grandchildren. Mary was preceded in death by husband Augie, parents: John and Josephine Veigel, Stepfather: Andrew Grassinger, Brothers: Ed and Leo Veigel, Sisters: Irene Myklebust, Cora Kanstrup and Ida Mae Ring. Funeral services were held on Monday, March 6, at Ave Maria Catholic Church in Wheaton, Minnesota with Father Stanley Wieser officiating. Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery in the spring. The Ranney Funeral Home of Wheaton and Herman, Minnesota was in charge of arrangements.
