Wayne was born March 5, 1934 in Finley, ND to Milford and Esther Horner. The fourth of eight children, Wayne grew up in Blabon, ND. Wayne joined the Army from 1954 to 1956 and was stationed in Germany as part of the rebuilding effort. He was recently honored for being a member of the American Legion for 55 years. On July 19th, 1959 Wayne married Faye Bjerke in Hatton, ND, where they lived until moving to Peever, SD in 1960 to manage the local elevator, and eventually own before selling the elevator prior to his retirement. In 1979, Wayne and Faye purchased the grocery store, re-naming it Horner's Korner, operating it for many years before selling. Wayne, or "Sonny" as his siblings referred to him, was a quiet man with a quick wit and a dry sense of humor. He loved his family deeply and enjoyed playing cards, bowling and coffee at Char's Cafe. Wayne loved sports - even playing on the town baseball team for a time in the 60's. He especially loved watching his beloved Green Bay Packers, Boston Celtics and Cleveland Indians. Wayne was well respected in the Peever community, always ready and willing to lend a helping hand, serving many years as fire chief and mayor. Most recently, Wayne resided in Brown's Valley, MN in the Valley Vista Apartments before health problems had him moving into the Eventide Nursing Home in Moorhead, MN. But he always held on to Peever as his home in his heart. Wayne is survived by four children: Mike (Mary Ann) Horner of Cottonwood, MN and their children Sydney and Max; Jon (Kelly) Horner of Fargo, ND and their children Courtney (Zach) Banister, Madi and Derek and one great-granddaughter Paisleigh Banister; Robin (Joel) Hagen of Moorhead, MN and their children Drew, Colton and Tori; and Derek (Dawn) Horner of Sioux Falls, SD and their children Trey, Tyler and Abby; four brothers: Jon (Ardys) Horner, Robert (Sonja) Horner, Dennis (Peggy) Horner and David (Myrna) Horner; and numerous nieces and nephews. Wayne was preceded in death by his parents; his wife Faye; and three sisters: Betty Seims, Lois Cole and Alice Tunseth.
