Robert Schmidt

Robert Allen Schmidt, age 79, of Norcross, Minnesota passed away Friday, May 20, 2022 at Prairie Ridge Hospital in Elbow Lake, MN.

A Memorial Service will be held Monday, May 30, 2022 at 2:00 p.m. at Harvest Outreach Church in Wahpeton, ND with Pastor Dominick Warne officiating.

Visitation will be held one hour prior to service time at the church.

Robert Allen Schmidt was born on April 1st, 1943, to Alva and Marian (Quam) Schmidt.  Robert, or “Bob” as all his friends and family knew him as, grew up on a farm near Herman, where he attended country school.  On July 24th, 1967, he was united in marriage to the love of his life, Linda Kay Martell at St. Charles Catholic Church in Herman.  They made their home in Herman for ten years, where they welcomed their first daughter, Connie in 1968 and their son, Rick in 1969.  They eventually moved to a farm site, east of Herman, where they added two more daughters to their family, Regina in 1980 and Crystal in 1981.  In 2000, they moved from the farm site and bought their first home in Norcross, where Bob resided until the time of his death.

Bob was a skilled carpenter, who insisted on “doing things right the first time” and could fix just about anything.  He started out by working with his dad on their farm, then began his real dream of carpentry at the Herman Lumberyard. He left there to start his own business, while working with many other talented carpenters over the years.  When they moved to Norcross, Bob eventually hung up his tool belt and took the position as Mayor of Norcross, one he maintained from January 2006 until the time of his passing.

Bob loved the Lord and had a strong, but quiet faith and his second greatest love was his family.  In his spare time, you could find him tinkering on all sorts of projects in his garage or shop, tending his garden, mowing for hours on his John Deere mower, or riding around on his 4-wheeler, searching for asparagus.  He took his duties as Mayor very seriously and enjoyed “taking care of” the occasional nuisance critter for those in the community.

Bob is survived by his wife, Linda; daughter, Connie (late Paul) Sandman, Hawley, MN; daughter, Regina (Brent) Wojahn, Fargo, ND; daughter, Crystal (Anthony) Prose, Hawley, MN; son, Rick Schmidt, Fargo, ND; grandchildren: Erica Sandman, Moorhead, MN; Micah Sandman, Pelican Rapids, MN; Gabe Buehler, Grace and Faith Schmidt, Fargo, ND; sister, Janice (Ronnie) Tolifson, Herman, MN; sister, Joan Radil, Alexandria, MN; sister-in-law, Dixie Schmidt of Herman and many nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Jerry Schmidt; son-in law, Paul Sandman; nephew Paul Martell and great-nephew, Mitchell Kliendl.
