Funeral Service for Robert Wheeler, 87, of Wheaton, Minnesota will be held Saturday, February 16, 2008 at 1:00 P.M. at the First Presbyterian Church in Wheaton, Minnesota with Pastor J. C. Duncan officiating. Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Wheaton, Minnesota. Pallbearers are: Gary Lundquist, Curt Lundquist, Eugene Lundquist, Gordon Zibell, Roger Schmitz, and George Sawyer, Honorary Bearers are: David Ranney Sr. Milton Larson, Willy Bock, Dean Gallup, Olin Lupkes, and Bill True. Visitation will be held Friday, February 15th from 5:00 P.M. until 8:00 P.M. with a 7:00 P.M. Masonic Service at the Ranney Funeral Home. Visitation will also be held Saturday from 12:00 Noon until service time at 1:00 PM at the church. Bob was born on July 22, 1920 in Wheaton, Minnesota, the son of Robert C. and Bonnie Wheeler. He graduated from Wheaton High School in 1938 and then attended Gustavus College. He enlisted in the Army Air Force in 1940, serving 4 ½ years. He was stationed in India and Tinian as a crew member of the B-29s. After his military service he came back to Minnesota and married his college sweetheart, Helen Suker from Lakefield, Minnesota. They were married on October 25, 1945. Bob furthered his education at the University of Minnesota. Then he and Helen moved to Wheaton in 1947, where they owned and operated the Texaco Station in downtown Wheaton. Hes been a familiar face on Main Street, and enjoyed morning and afternoon coffee with all the men. Bob was a 62 year member of, and past commander of the American Legion. He also belonged to the VFW, Masonic Lodge and Shriners, and the Presbyterian Church. You could always find him at Mens Night at the Wheaton Golf Course which he first joined in 1957, and has been a continuous member ever since. Bob was an avid outdoorsman and loved his bird hunting, especially trips to Canada with his good friend Bill True. He enjoyed summer nights at the cabin, and going fishing. Come fall, he would look forward to deer hunting up north at the Orr House . Bob passed away on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 at the Traverse Care Center in Wheaton, Minnesota with his family at his side. Bob is survived by his wife Helen, one daughter and son-in-law: Kathie and Dan Conroy, 1 granddaughter: Tori (Michael) Showalter, 2 great grandchildren: Sophia and Nichole all of Hartford, CT. He was preceded in death by his parents: Robert C. and Bonnie Wheeler, 1 brother: Fred.
