Roy Rosdahl

Funeral Service for Roy James Rosdahl, of Brainerd, Minnesota will be held Friday, June 28, 2013 at 2:00 pm at the Ranney-Bainbridge Funeral Home in Wheaton with Pastor Tim Shekleton officiating. Visitation will be held one hour prior to the service time at the funeral home in Wheaton. Burial will be at St. John Cemetery in Wheaton. Pallbearers will be his grandsons Matthew Rosdahl and Ryan Rosdahl. Honorary pallbearers will be his brother Robert Rosdahl; his nephew Bobby Rhyne and grandsons Tyler Rosdahl and Jackson Roy Smolke. Roy James Rosdahl, son of Hjalmer Rosdahl and Ora Strowger Rosdahl was born on July 23, 1927 in Wheaton, Minnesota where he grew up and graduated from Wheaton High School. He was united in marriage to LaVonne Catherine Wolbersen on March 26, 1950 in Wheaton, Minnesota where they lived until 1961. During that time Roy worked for Traverse Co-op Oil. In 1961 they moved with their two boys, Michael and Mark, to Morris, Minnesota where Steven and Lori were born. Roy worked for more than twenty years at the Golden Cream Dairy in Morris. He was a milkman back in the day when milk was delivered to houses and also delivered ice cream to stores in the area. On family gatherings he enjoyed bringing his Golden Cream ice cream and cones for everyone to enjoy. After his days at Golden Cream, he worked on the Nissen farm in Morris until he retired to the pine trees in the Pillager, Minnesota area. In his spare time, fishing and "catching the big one" put a smile on his face. The family pet, Buffy, was instrumental in frog hunting for their bait. Roy enjoyed shooting pool, especially snooker, as well as playing card games. Hunting with his sons, daughter and grandsons was another great pastime. Roy loved the outdoors, nature and gardening, but when it came to Scrabble, he was a true Champion! He enjoyed taking Sambo for walkseven when the "walk" was down the road on the riding lawn mower. His all-time favorite activity was anything that could be enjoyed his familywhether it was trips to a lake cabin, reunions or just spending time playing a game or visiting. Roy and LaVonne made their home in Pillager, Morris and Brainerd between the years of 1997 and 2013. Roy passed away Saturday, June 22, 2013 at Lakewood Care Center in Staples, MN at the age of 85. Roy is survived by his wife LaVonne of Brainerd, MN; his sons: Michael Roy (Jeanne) Rosdahl of Florence, Arizona, Mark (Vicki) Rosdahl, Steven Rosdahl of Brainerd, Minnesota and daughter Lori (Patrick) Smolke of Florence, Arizona; eight grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Roy was preceded in death by his parents, one brother Harley Rosdahl and three sisters: Nilla Pry, Jane Rhyne and Ora Claire Larson.
