Shirley Findlay, age 83, of Wheaton, Minnesota passed away Monday November 2, 2015, at the Traverse Care Center in Wheaton surrounded by her family. Funeral Services will be held Saturday, November 7, 2015 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Wheaton with Rev. Michael Breach officiating. Organist will be Theresa Thiel. Visitation will be held Friday, November 6th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. with a 7:00 p.m. Prayer Service at St. John Lutheran Church. Visitation will continue one hour prior to service time at the church on Saturday. Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery, rural Wheaton. Pallbearers will be grandsons: Ross Findlay, Rahn Findlay, Nathan Findlay, Dylan Findlay, Ben Findlay and Matthew Findlay. Honorary Pallbearers will be granddaughters: Kimberly Schroeder, Rachel Robinson, Roxanne Hagen, Tiffany Findlay, Megan Findlay, Jennifer Findlay, Amber Findlay, Savannah Findlay, Candice Hansen and Stephanie Findlay. Shirley Mae Peterson Findlay was born May 20, 1932 in Montevideo, MN to Theodore "Ted" and Alma (Lerohl) Peterson of Sacred Heart, MN. Shirley was received into God's Kingdom of Grace through Holy Baptism on September 14, 1932 at Wang Lutheran Church in Maynard, MN. Shirley confirmed her faith May 26, 1946 at Our Redeemers Lutheran Church Hancock, MN. Her confirmation verse was John 3:16. Shirley attended elementary school at Hawks Creek Country School District for four years and Holloway School for four years. Shirley graduated from high school at West Central School of Agriculture in 1949. Shirley was a nurse's aide at the old Stevens County Hospital. Shirley married Joseph Findlay Jr. of Wheaton, MN on May 20, 1951 at Our Redeemers Lutheran Church Hancock, MN. From this union they had seven boys. They made their home near rural Dumont and Herman, MN. Shirley belonged to St. John Lutheran Church and to the Lutheran Woman's Missionary League. Shirley enjoyed spending time with family and friends, gardening, canning fruits and vegetables for the family and raising and dressing chickens. She also enjoyed fishing, crocheting, putting together puzzles, reading, doing cross word puzzles and card playing. Shirley also enjoyed playing the piano, organ and listening to music. Shirley enjoyed many trips with Joseph. Her favorite vacation spot was in Maui, Hawaii. Shirley is survived by her husband, Joseph Findlay Jr., her six sons: Keith (Kathy) Findlay of Mankato, MN; David (LaDonna) Findlay of Norcross, MN; Gary (Rhonda) Findlay of Herman, MN; Daniel (Bonnie) Findlay of Herman, MN; Roger (Karrie) Findlay of Clinton, MN; and Paul (friend Cathy) Findlay of Coon Rapids, MN; sixteen grandchildren: Kimberly (Dusty) Schroeder of Holloway, MN; Dylan Findlay of Mankato, MN; Rachel Robinson of Hopkins, MN; Roxanne (Derek) Hagen of Alexandria, MN; Ross (Cally) Findlay of Herman, MN; Rahn (Stephanie) Findlay of Baxter, MN; Tiffany, Megan, Benjamin, Jennifer and Amber Findlay of Herman, MN; Matthew (Ashley) Findlay of Prior Lake, MN; Savannah Findlay of Herman , MN; Candice (James) Hansen of Hudson WI; Nathan Findlay of Graceville, MN; and Stephanie Findlay of Clinton, MN; twelve great-grandchildren: Devon, Dain and Korah Schroeder of Holloway, MN; Emma Robinson and Trey Allen of Hopkins, MN; Amya and Ethan Hagen of Alexandria, MN; Madison and Mack Findlay of Herman, MN; Odin and Ike Findlay of Prior Lake, MN; and Jackson Hansen of Hudson, WI; sisters-in-law: Marjorie (Jack) Smith of Pueblo, CO; Gloria Siefert of Waco, TX; and Virginia Peterson of Hancock, MN; brother-in-law Lawrence (Hazel) Findlay of Beardsley, MN; and many cousins, nieces and nephews. Shirley was preceded in death by parents Theodore "Ted" and Alma (Lerohl) Peterson; parents-in-law Joseph C. and Hazel Findlay; son Bryan Findlay; brother Verlin Peterson; brothers-in-law: Darrel Findlay and Tom Siefert; and sister-in-law Eleanor Findlay.
