Funeral Services for Sophie Niederbaumer will be held Thursday, October 21, at 11:00 A.M. at the Ave Maria Catholic Church in Wheaton. Fr. Joe Vandeberg will officiate. Visitation will be Wednesday evening from 5:00 PM until 7:00 PM with a prayer service at 7:00 PM at the Ranney Funeral Chapel in Wheaton, and continue one hour prior to services at the church on Thursday. Burial will be at Wildwood Cemetery in Wheaton. Pallbearers are the grandsons Gary, Dean, Curtis and Eugene Kleindl, and great grandsons, Joseph, Scott, Logan and Tyler Kleindl. Honorary pallbearers will be the rest of the grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Sophie passed away Early Saturday morning at the Traverse Care Center in Wheaton. She was 101 years old. Sophia was born in Wheaton, MN on September 30, 1909 to William and Ella Kemp. She attended country school through the 8th grade. After she graduated, she worked for several families in the area. On November 27, 1937, she was united in marriage to William Niederbaumer of Sisseton, South Dakota. They farmed for several years south of Barry, MN, then later moving back to the Wheaton area where they farmed until 1981. In 1981, they moved into Wheaton. Sophia was a good gardener and canned many jars of fruit and vegetables. She was a good bread baker and always had something on hand to prepare a meal in a short time when company came. Sophia was a kind and loving mother and grandmother, who will be dearly missed by the family and who knew her. Sophie Niederbaumer is survived by one daughter: Margaret and William Kirkey of Alexandria, 5 grandchildren: Gary and Annette Kleindl of Chokio, Minnesota, Dean Kleindl of Villard, Curtis Kleindl and friend Sue of St. Paul, Eugene Kleindl of Alexandria, Kimberly and Charles Simon of Big Lake, Minnesota., Eleven great grandchildren: Amy (Donny) Sigler of Canby, Jessica (David) Krogsrud of Chokio, Joseph, Scott, and Tracy Kleindl of Chokio, Logan, Tyler, Brandon and Spencer Kleindl of Alexandria, Lucas and Halle Simon of Big Lake and 2 great great grandsons: Rylee and Jace Sigler of Canby. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law: Gloria Durst of Chokio and Amy Stahl of Texas, several nieces and nephews. Sophie was preceded in death by her parents: William and Ella (Jansen) Kemp, her husband William, seven brothers and sisters: Lillian Weber, Louis Kemp, Alice French, Marion Asplund, Inez Meier, William and Raymond Kemp, and one son-in-law: Joseph Kleindl.
