Vern was born on the family farm by Menahga, Minnesota on March, 20, 1933 to Rudolph and Ida (Hempel) Hasbargen. The family moved to Monson Township in Traverse County in the spring of 1939. Here Vern attended District 17 School through the eighth grade.

He loved farming all his life; especially working with his cattle and sheep. Vern enjoyed spending many hours playing with his nieces and nephews as they drove his tractor and chased his lambs. Among his favorite hobbies were attending auctions, threshing bees and listening to country western music.

Vern had a great sense of humor and always kept a joke in his billfold to share with everyone. He read his Bible and Portals of Prayer faithfully. If it wasn't given to him in time he would stop at the church to pick it up.

Vern is survived by four brothers: Roy (Marie) Hasbargen of St. Cloud, Minnesota; Fred (Karen) Hasbargen of Wheaton; Wally (Becky) Hasbargen of Wheaton; and Rudy (Kathi) Hasbargen of Fergus Falls, Minnesota; four sisters-in-law: Lois Hasbargen of Fargo, North Dakota; Jan Hasbargen of Wheaton; Betty Hasbargen of Baldwin, Wisconsin; and Shirley Hasbargen of Wahpeton, North Dakota; fourteen nieces, fourteen nephews, and numerous great-nieces and great-nephews.

Vern was preceded in death by his parents; six brothers: Alfred, Chester, Ernest, Paul, Henry and Ed; sisters: Inez Schuttoff and Ruth Hasbargen; brother-in-law: Melvin Schuttoff; sister-in-law Ervina Hasbargen; and niece Julie Dammann.
