Funeral Service for Verna Fay Olson, 93, of Wheaton, Minnesota will be held Friday, March 30, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wheaton, Minnesota with Pastor Tom Olson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the church Verna passed away on March 24, 2012 at the Rosholt Care Center in Rosholt, South Dakota. Pallbearers will be Keith Janke, Jason Janke, Andrew Rowland, Dean Lampe and Gordon Christensen. Honorary Pallbearers will be her family and friends. Interment will be in Wildwood Cemetery, Wheaton, beside her husband Alvin. Verna Fay Olson was born in Browns Valley, Minnesota on December 9, 1918 to Fred and Othelia (Evenson) Bretzke. Verna attended school in Browns Valley where she enjoyed playing sports, especially basketball. Verna married Alvin C. Olson on May 8, 1934. Alvin had started farming in Parnell Township during the late 1920s. They lived there until 1941 when they moved to Dollymount Township where they bought and operated a farm until moving to Wheaton in 1946. After Verna and Alvins full retirement in the mid 1960s they RV traveled the United States and Canada often with their grandson, Keith. She also enjoyed their cottage on Lake Traverse and all outdoor activities with family and friends. Verna had a special love for animals of all kinds, especially dogs. She was always involved with church activities. Quilting with the ladies was one of her favorites. Verna also enjoyed reading and watching the Minnesota Twins. Verna is survived by one daughter Lois (Fred) Kaschmitter of White Bear Lake, Minnesota, one grandson Keith (Susan) Janke of Wheaton, Minnesota, one great-granddaughter Janeen (Andrew) Rowland of Wahpeton, North Dakota and one great-grandson Jason Janke of Wheaton, Minnesota. She was preceded in death by her husband Alvin, parents Fred and Othelia, one sister Lois, and two brothers Rueben and Carmen. She was a loving wife to her husband Alvin and she will always be remembered by her family as a wonderful, loving, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother.
