Funeral Services for Vernell Andy Anderson, of Mahtomedi, Minnesota, formerly of Wheaton, will be held on Friday, December 9, 2011 at 1:00 PM at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wheaton with Pastor Tom Olson officiating. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour prior to services on Friday. Pallbearers were All of Andys Grandchildren . Burial with Military Rites will be at Wildwood Cemetery in Wheaton. Andy passed away early Monday morning at St. Andrews Village in Mahtomedi, Minnesota. He was 84 years old. Vernell (Andy) was born on July 10, 1927 in Wheaton, Minnesota. He graduated from Rosholt High School and enlisted in the US Navy. After his discharge, he attended NDSU and Dakota School of Business before returning to Wheaton, Minnesota. He met the love of his life, Lucy C. Walz, and they were married in 1950. They were blessed with 2 sons, Terry and Gregg. They were active members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, the Wheaton Country Club and volunteering in the community. Andy was a member of the American Legion, Post 80. He retired from the US Postal Service in 1984. Due to health concerns, Andy moved to West View Assisted Living Apartments in Osakis, then St. Andrews Village in Mahtomedi, Minnesota after Lucys death in 2004. Many thanks to the staff for the love and care they provided. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fredolph and Marvyl (Larson) Anderson and his wife, Lucy. He is survived by his sons, Terry (Nancy) Anderson of Stillwater, Minnesota, and Gregg (Judi) Anderson of Osakis, Minnesota, eight grandchildren: Nate (Michelle), Nic and Stephanie, Jesi (Tommy) Siens, Jaci (Jimmy) Neal, Brooke, Tracie, Nick and Haley; eight great-grandchildren: Drake and Taylan, Madalyn, Brady, Tyler, Gregg Matthew, Jackson, and Simon. We will miss his sense of humor, smile, skill at cribbage and love that he has given us. Enjoy a dish of ice cream (Ill never turn down a dish of ice cream ) and think of Andy!
