Virginia was born in Oakes, ND on February 16, 1931 to Hilda Marie (Casal) Widmer and John August Widmer Jr. Virginia grew up on the family farm by Crete, ND and attended eight years of school at country school Denver No. 2 Sargent County, then on to Oakes High School for four years. Virginia attended summer school at Ellendale Normal College and in the fall went to Valley City State Teachers College earning her Elementary Teaching Certificate. In 1950 Virginia taught first through fourth grades at Fort Ranson, ND.

She met Glen R. Froemke at Smith's Barn Dance in 1948. Glen and Virginia were married on June 18, 1950. Virginia and Glen lived on a farm east of Lisbon for a short time, then moved to a farm by Crete, ND. While at Crete their two children were born: Pamela Joy (Froemke) Anderson and Gene Howard "Bud" Froemke. In 1953 they moved to Tintah, MN and operated the Phillips 66 Gas Station and Lunch Counter; later it became Standard Oil which they owned and operated. Glen also did bulk fuel deliveries both in town and to farm sites. Glen and Virginia ran their business together for over twenty years. After retiring they wintered in Chandler, Arizona for twenty plus years.

They moved to Wheaton, MN permanently in August of 2002 to be closer to family and friends. In 2008, they made the move to Countryside Inn Assisted Living in Rosholt, SD.

Virginia was a member of the Congregational Church of Tintah for fifty years, serving on the Sunday School Committees, singing in the choir and was also an active member of the Ladies Aid. After moving back to Wheaton, Virginia and Glen attended and later became members of Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wheaton.

Virginia loved to play cards, Rummikub, and cooking meals, baking diner rolls and cookies; sharing them with family and neighbors. She enjoyed playing bells along with Pam at Countryside Inn with the "Ding-A-Lings." She also enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren's activities and loved helping out with babysitting and entertaining.
