Wesley O. Hoffman, age 77, of Norcross, Minnesota passed away January 23, 2016 at Care Regional Hospital in Aransas Pass, Texas.
Funeral Services will be held Saturday, January 30, 2016 at 2:00 p.m. at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Herman, Minnesota with Rev. Carl Berner officiating. Organist will be Deb Anderson and soloist will be Connie Solvie.
Interment will be in Lakeside Cemetery, rural Herman. Pallbearers will be Wes Hoffman, Cody Johnson, Lucas Hoffman, Randy Gades, Gerald Hoffman and Luverne Hoffman. Honorary Pallbearers will be Wesley's granddaughters and great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be held Friday, January 29th from 5:00 p.m. until 7:30 p.m. with a 7:30 p.m. Prayer Service at Bethlehem Lutheran Church in Herman. Visitation will continue Saturday afternoon from 1:00 p.m. until service time at the church.
Wesley was born on April 16, 1938 to Harry and Helen Hoffman in Hancock, MN. He was born at his Grandmother Neeseman's house and was the oldest of six children. He attended Country School District 45 through the eighth grade. Then he attended West Central School of Agriculture for the next three years. Wesley graduated from Hancock High School in 1956 and farmed with his dad for the next four years.
Wesley was united in marriage to Myrna Amundson in 1958. To this union three children were born: Jeffrey Jerome, Leslie Lee and Michelle Marie. Wesley and Myrna divorced in 1979. Wesley married Gayle Schmidt in December of 1979 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Hancock adding two more children Brett Wallace and Amy Beth.
In 1980 Wesley purchased Amundson Industries from R.O. Amundson, changing the name to G & W Manufacturing. In 1985 he sold the business to Donald Larson and continued work there for the next 5 years. He also worked for Cellular One, as an insurance agent and as a maintenance man for St Francis Health Services. Wes continued to live in Norcross, their camper on Ten Mile Lake and eventually wintered in Texas.
Wesley enjoyed fishing, hunting and playing cards. He was the past President of the Minnesota North Lutheran Layman's League, a member of the Grant County Sportsmen's, Grant County Republicans, and was active at Bethlehem Lutheran Church. Wesley also enjoyed his time at Ten Mile Lake, Mexico and Rockport, Texas. Spending time with his grandchildren, great-grandchildren was among his favorite things to do.
Wesley is survived by his wife Gayle of Norcross, MN; children: Jeff (Marie) Hoffman of Ashby, MN; Leslie (Darwin) Edwards of Glendive, MT; Brett (Jan) Schmidt of Hawley, MN; Michelle Johnson of North Branch, MN; and Amy (Brian) Solvie of Morris, MN; grandchildren: Wes (Angie )Hoffman, Lisa (Randy) Gades, Heather Hoffman, Jessica Hoffman, Lucas Hoffman, Breanna Schmidt, Brinn (Paul) Richards, Jaycee Schmidt, Cody (Lauren) Johnson, Tehya (Zach) Gardner, Abbigayle Solvie and Sydney Solvie; ten great-grandchildren; siblings: Carol (Sanford) Skarsten, Harriet (Jerry) Amundson, Luverne (Mary) Hoffman, Gerald (Karen) Hoffman and Joyce (Rolf) Standfuss.
